Die purpose des Buches ist die Beschreibung und Interpretation der mechanischen und dynamisch-mechanischen Eigenschaften von viskoelastischen Körpern, da diese normalerweise das Einsatzgebiet von elastomeren Werkstoffen bestimmen.

Zu Beginn werden die Grundlagen der linearen Deformationsmechanik für den idealen Festkörper und die ideale newtonsche Flüssigkeit vorgestellt und auf den viskoelastischen Körper übertragen. Zum Verständnis der dynamisch-mechanischen Eigenschaften werden dann sowohl einfache phänomenologische Modelle als auch molekular Theorien, wie Rouse- und Reptationsmodell, vorgestellt und diskutiert. Im zweiten Teil des Buches der liegt der Fokus auf den nichtlinearen mechanischen Eigenschaften. Auf der foundation einfacher thermodynamischer Überlegung wird das nichtlineare Deformationsverhalten idealer viskoelastischer Systeme abgeleitet und auf reale Systeme übertragen.


Claus Wrana, geb. 1963 in Ulm, leitet seit 2008 den Bereich Polymer trying out der Lanxess Deutschland GmbH. Er studierte Physik an der Universität Ulm und promovierte am Institut für dynamische Materialanalyse (IdM) in Ulm über die dynamisch-mechanischen Eigenschaften von gefüllten Elastomersystemen. Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Leiter des Polymer trying out hält er seit 2000 Vorlesungen an der Universität Hannover und seit 2008 an der Qingdao college of technology and expertise.
